Proof of Employment or Income
The University of Kansas is now using The Work Number®/ to provide automated employment and income verifications for faculty, staff, students and retirees.
THE WORK NUMBER® is a service of the TALX Corporation that provides you with an automated process to handle employment and income verifications. It allows you to have your employment and income verified within a matter of minutes. This fast, secure service is used for mortgage applications, reference checks, loan applications, apartment leases, government aid or most other applications that require proof of employment. It is quick, convenient and, best of all, it’s easy. The Work Number is widely known to mortgage lenders, banks, apartment complexes and others (verifiers) who may need proof of your employment or income, and it is easy for them to use.
If you have held employment with another organization/company that uses this service, your prior data will be shown along with your KU data. Neither KU nor The Work Number will charge an employee for this service.
Requested information is accessed directly from The Work Number web site by verifiers. Faculty, staff, students and retirees with active online IDs may access information through the myKU portal.. A voice option is also available. The Work Number can be used anytime, anywhere – available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Both the Lawrence and Medical Center organizations have provided historical data starting as of calendar year 2013. Employment and income is updated every biweekly payday.
Verifiers are required to secure your signature on their document(s) for income verification authorization.
How to Use The Work Number:
For Proof of Employment (All) and Income (Verifier that Subscribes to The Work Number):
Step 1: Give the person needing proof of your employment, the verifier, the following information:
- Your Social Security Number
- University of Kansas Employer Code: 13067
- The Work Number Access Options for Verifiers:
For Proof of Income for Verifiers who are not Subscribers to The Work Number:
If the verifier does not subscribe to The Work Number, a Salary Key will be required in order for them to access your income information. A Salary Key is a six-digit number created by you in The Work Number system that allows one-time access to your salary information in addition to your proof of employment. It is estimated that less than 3% of the income verifications will need to have a salary key created.
Please see our web site for the more information, including details on creating a Salary Key and sample verification documents humanresources.ku.edu/employment-and-salary-verification.
