What is an Income Tax Return
Legal Services for Students is your best resource concerning questions about taxes.
At the beginning of each new calendar year you will hear about filing an Income Tax Return. The deadline for filing is normally April 15th. Legal Services for Students provides workshops and other assistance to international employees. More information about filing your Income Tax Return can be found at the Legal Services for Students website. Tax documents issued by payroll:
W-2 Form: is normally available online, in early January. If you do not get your W-2 online it will be mailed to the home address on file in HR/Pay at the end of January. Instructions to retrieve a W-2 form. Please be sure your address is correct in HR/Pay by the end of November, Updates to your address can by made at hr.ku.edu and then use self-service to update your address. W-2 forms are only available after the completion of a calendar year.
1042-S Form (this form is only sent to employees who have a tax treaty that was honored through payroll): from Payroll is normally mailed in late February or early March. It is mailed to the address on file in hr.ku.edu. Please be sure that your address is correct by the end of November. You may also receive a 1042-S rom Student Account Services if you had a scholarship or fellowship.
